Praise of Folly (+-1511) is a famous satirical work by Erasmus, in which the goddess Folly (Stultitia) praises herself and argues that folly, humor, and self-deception make life livable and cheerful. It is a sharp social critique of the church, scholars, and rulers, wrapped as an ironic eulogy. In short: folly persists.
