Xylem and Phloem.

Xylem and phloem are the vascular bundles (transport tissues) of plants. Xylem transports water and minerals in one direction (upwards) from roots to leaves. Phloem transports sugars and nutrients (assimilates) from the leaves to the rest of the plant in both directions. Xylem consists of dead cells, phloem of living cells.
Xyleem en floëem zijn de vaatbundels (transportweefsels) van planten. Xyleem vervoert water en mineralen in één richting (omhoog) van wortels naar bladeren. Floëem transporteert suikers en voedingsstoffen (assimilaten) vanuit de bladeren naar de rest van de plant in beide richtingen. Xyleem bestaat uit dode cellen, floëem uit levende cellen.
