Praise of Folly (+-1511) is a famous satirical work by Erasmus, in which the goddess Folly (Stultitia) praises herself and argues that folly, humor, and self-deception make life livable and cheerful. It is a sharp social critique of the church, scholars, and rulers, wrapped as an ironic eulogy. In short: folly persists.

Lof der Zotheid (1511) is een beroemd satirisch werk van Erasmus, waarin de godin Zotheid (Stultitia) zichzelf prijst en betoogt dat dwaasheid, humor en zelfbedrog het leven leefbaar en vrolijk maken. Het is een scherpe maatschappijkritiek op de kerk, geleerden en vorsten, verpakt als een ironische lofrede. Kortom : dwaasheid blijft bestaan.
